Recently I made a Squirrel Girl commission and I made the apparently outrageous SIN of giving her some fat. Most people liked my design but I saw that one comment saying "lol she's the Blob or what". I usually don't bother that much with that kind of comments, I tend to throw my ko-fi and tell them "if you want to be able to have a say in what I do then you pay me, like everybody else", it's usually enough to have them shut the fuck up. But this specific comment bothered me. It bothered me because apparently I wasn't allowed to draw a CANONICALLY fat character like she is, with some fat and because I was TIRED of people using Blob as an insult because "haha fat people". So I drew this instead of wasting my time answering and making a long rant about how human beings should allowed to exist to people who clearly think it's a crime. To prove that "Blob" wasn't an insult. I highly regret not putting more effort in it because I had a lot of comments about it, about people telling me how important it was for them to have this representation. I didn't even think about that when I drew this, I drew this to prove it was rather a compliment, like, look how cool he looks. People wish they had half this aura. I didn't think deeper than that on the moment, but I got a lot of messages thanking me and it made me think "shit, 'should I thought about that and I should have put more effort into it". That's the thing when you're an artist. It doesn't care your level, your artstyle, your skill. As an artist you have the power to change someone's day, to make it better. Hell, you even have the power to influence their whole life the same way yours were influenced by artists through all the fictions that made you the person you now are. It's the greatest power and with great powers comes great responsability so use that power wisely to make the world a better place, even for only 1 person. Make it worth it.
