The Captain America Brave New World trailer just came out and I thought it would be super fun to overinterpret everything and comes up with my theories. I'm not gonna make Captain America theories 'cause I'm not the right person for that so let's talk about everything gamma instead alright !

Ok first of all let's put that trailer for those of you who haven't seen it yet. It's the English version with French subtitles 'cause people who read me are either French or English speakers.

Ok I gotta do a little disclaimer first because internet is internet : I love making up theories and analyzis stuff and shit but this is from MY pov, MY interpretations. If something doesn't happen I will only have my own expectation to blame. I don't care if the movie doesn't follow my theories, I'm doing this for fun, PLEASE stop fucking complaining about writing everytime it doesn't match your own personal vision of something and learn to have fun, jeeeeeeeez.

Note that everytime I'll say Sam I'll be talking about Samuel Sterns and not Sam Wilson who I call Captain America for easier understanding (and because I like bothering people who don't see him as Captain America, that's my toxic trait).

So let's start with the obvious,

SAM STERNS FINALLY GREEN

That moment barely last 0.1 sec but I'll be talking about it for years.

You can hear Tim Blake Nelson (so Sam) talking "Global power is shifting, you're just a paw" and I love, I LOVE the way he talks. His slow deep voice reminds me of Matt Frewer's voice when he was voicing Sam in Incredible Hulk (1996). I really don't know if it was meant on purpose or not but Matt Frewer being (so far) my favorite voice for Sam as the Leader I just love it.

We can barely see Sam and it's kinda hard to tell if the back of his head is green hair or the difformed brain-ish head he had during his Peter David era back in the 80/90s (though to me it's 100% brainish)

Sam Sterns design in the 90s
Samuel Sterns / The Leader design by Todd McFarlane

I wouldn't be surprised if the MCU goes with that look because it's the most popular era for Sam. It's the easiest look to adapt on a live action movie with a somewhat grounded aesthetic also. Tim Blake Nelson himself said that it was a very practical look with very few CGI and this kind of makeup is easier to do than a big forehead. This Sam also has a lighter skin less satured green so again, easier to adapt. You know me, I love the long elongated forehead Sam design more than everything, this is the one I draw and shit. But for this movie I really don't want that. I don't think it can look good on screen, in a serious way I mean. I'm afraid it would be too goofy. Don't get me wrong, if they go with that look I'll follow my Leader anyway lol, but I think it would be better, even for the big audience, to go with something more horrific and disgusting, something closer to that bald McFarlane design.

And last, Peter David era Sam is probably the best possible Sam to adapt to the ambiance and story of Captain America Brave New World 'cause back then he was building his own world, his own dystopia through conspiracy and political shit.

A lot of people dislike the Brave New World name 'cause they think it's "too cute" (yes, I saw people saying that, I'm not making up shit) but it's the name of a very famous book by Aldous Huxley. And Sam's Freehold (that's the name of the city he built) was pretty similar to Brave New World and all so to me it makes sense that while they won't go that far 'cause it's not about Sam and it's a bit too hard to adapt in a two hours movie they will take inspiration from that Sam who would mind controle people to get what he needed.

That being said, take a look at MCU Sam's outfit. It's just a coat and a hat yes. Now let me share a moment where Sam is using his mind control powers on politicians and militaries during Peter David's run.

Sam is able to mind control people through touch in this era (it's no longer used nowaday, sometimes mentionned but that's it) and remember that moment in the trailer when Isaiah Bradley attacks President Ross.

a screenshot of Isaiah from Captain BNW shooting at someone

Isaiah is a Super Soldier so maybe Sam used something similar to the Winter Soldier program to "mind control" him. In a way or another it's totally Sam mind controlling, like his 90s self. I don't think it will be through touch, I think they'll find a more "grounded / modern-ish" way to do that. That's why I'm talking about Super Soldier. But there's no way it's not Sam mind controlling him, it's obvious af. That's probably Sam's lab here. It's red so it's most likely where Red Hulk was made. But it's also blue and it's probably a terrible stretch from my overanalyzis ass but it could be an homage to his "Mister Blue" name. Don't judge me alright? I give sense to everything. You can also notice torture chair and "bed", or whatever it's called (I'm French, I don't know how it's called) which have me wonder if Sam used it to enhance people like he does in comics. Somehow the focus seems to be on that chair, it's the element you see the most here. And again, it's blue so my guess is it's related to Sam and somewhat important for his schieme. I don't think he used it for Red Hulk, too small. This whole lab looks overly cluttered, which reminds me of Sam's lab in Incredible Hulk but the "horror" version of it, if that makes sense. The whole aesthetic is very Frankenstein-ish and I truly dig that 'cause as you know I'm a huge fan of Frankenstein.

And we have a second little glimpse at the boy, barely. But first thing I gotta mention is SAM IN A FUCKING HOOD???????? I'LL GO FUCKING CRAZY OVER IT YOU HAVE NO IDEA (I have a HUGE soft spot for hooded figures but Sam's big head kinda made that impossible and I so so want to see that, like, PLEASE). We see his green hand, probably taking pictures of people outside the conference where Isaiah went Winter Soldier. There's a metalic thing in front of the hood on the top of the pic. Some people assumed it was his forehead with some kind of "crown" like he tends to wear in artworks but it's clearly a camera, he's a creepy little stalker in comics, though he usually doesn't move his lazy ass and do this from his lab. But that's what he's doing here, stalking, spying. It's weird seeing him on the field but why not. Would have make more sense to me if he was sitting in his lab to spy on people, he seems very close which is way too reckless for Sam, in my opinion. But why not, I don't have the context after all.

Now what might be Sam's relationship with Ross ? Well, we got enough clues here.

First I'm gonna share that moment from Hulk vol.2 23

a comics page of Sam Sterns, MODOK and Ross talking about "fixing" the country by putting Ross in charge
Hulk vol.2 23 (2010) written by Jeff Loeb, art by Leinil Francis Yu

During the Red Hulk era Sam's goal was to put Ross as the President of the United States right after Steve Rogers' death. We have a very similar setup here (except for M.O.D.O.K. and Betty Ross' death) with a Thaddeus Ross now President after the disappearance of Steve Rogers. If they took inspiration from the comics, then he probably had some kind of deal with Sam. I don't remember who said that (probably Julius Onah), but someone said in an interview Sam wanted to get what was rightfully his or something like that so I can very well imagine that he helped Ross becoming President and that he's now reclaiming what he thinks should be his paiement.

To me while Sam's writing might be highly inspired by Peter David, I think his relationship with Ross will most likely be inspired by the Red Hulk era (Fall of The Hulks/World War Hulks included), so Greg Pak. After all the movie seems to be focusing on Red Hulk rather than Sam so Sam will be adapted to Red Hulk, not the other way around.

The Funeral

There is a military funeral in the trailer and in the pictures we got from last year when they shot the movie.

a screenshot of Captain America BNW showing a cemetary

A few people are assuming it's Steve Rogers' or Isaiah's. It's definitly not Steve, I don't know how you can think that given the answer we got in Falcon and Winter Soldier but I'm not judging (I am) and I don't think it's Isaiah 'cause if he gets killed it will probably be while attacking people so as a "terrorist", making it hard to believe he would have such honors for his funeral (and I don't see him dying anyway).

For me it's most likely Ross'.

I mentionned it already but there's a one-shot comics named Fall of the Hulks Gamma highly connected to Red Hulk showsingThaddeus Ross' funeral. You had Betty (who was supposed to be dead back then) who was seen on the cemetary when they shot it, Captain America (as Steve Rogers, it's from 2009) and even Bruce Banner (so if we have a Mark Ruffalo cameo it might be here as well). Quick talk about Mark Ruffalo : unlike most people I don't want him in the movie. Don't get me wrong, I'm DYING to see him interact with Tim Blake Nelson. But I don't want it to be wasted in a movie about Captain America, I want Marvel to keep that for their own movie (if it's true they got the rights back) or for an Avengers movie or whatever but not here, I don't want it to be rushed.

Anyway, in both Civil War and Black Widow it is mentionned that Ross suffers serious heart issues so it could be either this of just him being assassinated. But like I've been saying since we know Ross is gonna be in the movie, I'm 100% sure his heart condition will play a huge role in his Red Hulk transformation and so in the movie plot. From my gamma experience, I think Ross will go to Sam to ask him to save his ass and Sam will with a little TWIST of his (turning him into Red Hulk). I don't know if Ross will willingly become Red Hulk or if it will be without him knowing, to be fair both are very possible, I can't tell.

Part of the recent reshots apparently took place here :

Now if you're not familiar with the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, this place is known for taking care of a few US Presidents and their family. So to me it's either for Ross or Captain America (he had a broken arm in some pictures).

Also apparently Tim Blake Nelson was around for reshot. It doesn't mean he was here, but I think he will. I think the hospital part happens before the big final.

So to me Ross will "die", either on purpose or not, either a fake or really die, someone will set up his death like Sam and Ross did in comics (so probably them too), maybe against Ross' will, maybe through his own demand and he'll comeback as Red Hulk after that. Maybe his death happens in that hospital. This is probably where Sam will add the last final touch to have him turn into Red Hulk.

Speaking of Red Hulk :

He looks super good already and I can't wait to see more but I hope we won't see too much before the movie. Marvel has a reputation of showing too much and I strongly believe it highly contributes to having people feeling disappointed. Also there's so much focus on all these bloomed trees, I guess Spring has an importance in the plot in a way or another because we see bloomed trees in A LOT of shots, even the one with Sam with his hat, but I can't use comics knowledge to explain or backup that but it's so forced (not in a negative way) everywhere I'm sure there's a reason to that. It's clearly the final climax, btw.

The first shot looks very ugly, I'll be honest, but it's way too soon to get upset (I don't get upset over the work of underpaid people and their impossible schedule anyway) 'cause it could also not be totally finished. That second shot with Captain America and his wings goes super hard though.

Anyway, that's all for now, so until we get more news (supposedly for SDCC)

Enjoy~
